Effective Field Theories - Session I: Workshop

Abstract: Effective Field Theory is widely accepted as the most honest, scientifically accurate machinery in theoretical and phenomenological physics. This is because EFTs aim to describe physics at the accessible energy scales without attempting to reach UV-complete theories. With this in mind, this workshop will give attendees an appetizer for what EFT is all about and will be split into two sessions. The first session will provide theoretical motivation for why EFTs are the natural language for experimental particle physics. In contrast, the second session will show attendees how to extract useful information from scattering amplitudes using Wolfram Mathematica and how to use EFT arguments to decide which processes are relevant for a particular task.

Convener: Juan Jose Mejia Alvarez (Purdue University (US))
