News

  • Valentin mentioned a possibility of short-term internships for candidates from Dutch universities.
  • Branch 6.40 this week.

Shift handover

  • Olivier -> Jakob
  • Issues assigned, forum posts answered.
  • Windows failures, fix merged today.
  • Mac beta updated before the weekend.

Proposal + Report by Serguei

  • Provide a possibility to browse relatively small files directly in Jupyter notebooks.
  • Size is limited. Completely decoupled from C++ at the moment.
  • Uses ROOT functionality behind the scenes for local files.
  • It is a new magic command and it doesn't conflict with any of the existing functionality. Maybe this can go in 6.40?
  • Could this be an attack surface?
  • No, because this is completely decoupled.
  • Files larger than 10MB will get a warning.
  • Fixed some other issues.

Meeting Summaries

  • I/O
  • Nothing to report.
  • Statistical Analysis Software
  • Presentation on HS3 serialization, want to do an open data release (open likelihood).
  • They will also provide some demo notebooks for p-value scans (to reproduce the plots from the paper).
  • PPP
  • MPUnits presentation by Mateusz 2 weeks ago (person who presented at the HSF seminar)
  • A little bit more time to ask questions. In the end, the conclusion was not very different.
  • Python C++ Bindings Meeting
  • Normal round table.
  • Equal-to operator falls back to pointer comparison. Discussion on this.
  • Migration has succeeded for the most part. Now need to make it consistent between C++ and Python.
  • Planning/Stakeholders
  • 2 weeks ago, it went very well.
  • LIM
  • A couple of issues raised by Atlas:
    • Rewriting built-in things raised some issues because some packages can't be found.
    • xxhash is a dependency of libcore but internal. They will open an issue on this.
    • There is a new major version of XRootD released. Will not go with 6.40 release.
    • Atlas is asking for Python 3.14. They are looking at the Ubuntu version that is coming out with 3.14.

Liaisons Report

  • Nothing to report/relevant people were absent in the meeting.

Topic

  • Branching if v6.40 patches. No objections.

Round table

  • See the document, added notes when they were missing.

Philippe:

  • Adding support for custom alignments of classes merging today
  • Continuing work on 1GB limit.

Vincenzo
- There is a memory hoarding that is ongoing.
- Did not converge on a solution yet. It's also an issue on GitHub.

There are minutes attached to this event. Show them.
