Max Planck Society Indico adoption status and MPP activities

• Andrii Verbytskyi (Max Planck Society (DE))

Several Max Planck Society (MPG) institutes have independently adopted Indico following different deployment models, ranging from self-hosted instances to externally provided services. This contribution gives an overview of the current landscape of Indico usage within the MPG, discusses the practical obstacles encountered, including authentication integration, data protection compliance, maintenance overhead for small IT teams. In the same time it discusses the potential benefits for the MPG institutes and briefly describes the MPP activities related to Indico.

A prototype of the Indico REST API, described with OpenAPI v3

• José Molina (Unconventional)
• Alejandro Avilés (Unconventional)

Indico answers over HTTP in two shapes today: the legacy export API and the JSON endpoints each React page calls. Neither is versioned or described by a machine-readable contract, and a proper REST API has been on the wish list of the community for years. This short demo shows a working prototype of it: a plugin serving a read-only REST API under `/api/v1`, described with an OpenAPI v3 document and browsable through Swagger UI. The API reuses Indico's own request handlers, marshmallow schemas and access checks, so a response contains exactly what the authenticated user could see in the web interface. It covers 34 entities through 85 GET endpoints, with permission-aware pagination, personal token authentication, and a parity test per entity asserting that the new endpoint and the one Indico already serves answer the same values. In 10 minutes I will query a seeded instance from Swagger UI, show how a resource is added on top of core, and leave one question open: what would it take to get this into Indico?

Deploying Indico on Kubernetes with Canonical’s Juju

• Doğay Kamar

I'd like to introduce the Charmed Indico operator and demonstrate how to deploy and manage Indico on Kubernetes using Canonical’s Juju. The charm encapsulates the operational knowledge required to run the application, automating its deployment, configuration, and integration with essential backend dependencies like PostgreSQL, Redis, and S3. To show this model-driven approach in action, I will perform a live deployment of Indico from scratch, wire it to its required background services using Juju relations, and showcase a fully configured, accessible Indico environment running in minutes.
