ALPHA needs

Adam reported that ALPHA will require operating throughout LS3, with the positron accumulator, a new magnetic beam line, usual SC magnets and a new Hminus ion source. The needs are expected around 113 kW preferably with demineralized water (tap water alternative can be considered).

ASACUSA needs

Eric showed the expectations of ASACUSA 2 (no need for ASACUSA 1), which amount to about 10 kW mostly during the last 6 months of 2027, preferably with demineralized water (tap water alternative can be considered, piping used during LS2 are still in place).

AEgIS needs

AEgIS is normally cooled with tap water only, which will be required more or less during all LS3 duration. In the long run, the system should be converted to be operated with demi water in closed loop. The exact cooling powered required is TBC, as well as the compatibility with usual demi water temperature (around 27 °). Action Gosia.

GBAR needs

It is assumed that GBAR will operate with Hminus till end of November. During this time, normal needs are expected, ie 17 m3/h, by far the largest needs of all experiments. The situation for 2027 is not clear yet, but if the experiment continues to operate, about 15 m3/h will be needed. This can not be covered by any other means but demineralized water.

PUMA needs

PUMA can operate with its own heat exchangers, but would be comfortable with circulation of demineralized water, with a total power of 30 kW.

BASE and BASE-STEP do not require any cooling during LS3

Possible solutions

Nicolas indicates that it would be possible to re-use the small pump, relocated in the South West corner of 193 (close to access to 393) to continue supplying the demineralized cooling network during the expected dismantling of the cooling station. The related expected cost amounts to about 14kCHF for CV plus the scaffolding and power supply. This looks like the best possible solution for everybody. Action: Nicolas to ask for a quote from EL, Francois will discuss the financing possibilities.

AOB

Nicolas requires that LS3 be the opportunity to revise the content of copper and brass in the piping/setup of all the experiments, to limit the frequency of water filters replacement (currently twice the normal frequency)
