Diversity & Inclusion Office Open Meeting
In the news item, a reference was made regarding the topics discussed in the last D&I plenary meeting. It was pointed out that if colleagues have issues with the views and opinions expressed in the D&I meetings, they should brought it to the notice of co-chairs so that positive corrections can be made. The goal of the D&I office is to have a positive impact on CMS by broadening the Diversity and Inclusion in CMS.
The other news item was the progress regarding the support to our Iranian colleagues who have not been able to collaborate due to prevailing conditions. The Spokes and CB chair provided the steps undertaken to provide support to some students from Iran. The process is still ongoing as all the CVs have not been received yet. The Breakthrough prize is another avenue and Iranian students are encouraged to apply for this award. It was suggested to inform the Iranian colleagues so that their students can submit the applications. Points were also raised regarding providing support to the Palestinian and Lebanese colleagues who are also going through similar situation. Spokesperson updated that they had a meeting with them and are working to find ways to extend support.
On other agenda item about Inclusion 50, it was suggested that we should send a survey/google doc to the collaboration and ask them to make suggestions that would like to see in the CERN to broaden the Diversity and Inclusion. The D&I office will compile the suggestions to submit them to the Inclusion 50 on behalf of the collaboration.
It was also suggested that we should send an announcement to the collaboration regarding the D&I plenary to increase the attendance in the D&I plenary meeting.
