VTRx+ Quality Assurance Program: Lot Acceptance, Monitoring, and Device Characterisation 50m Zoom conference room (Virtual Event)

      Zoom conference room

      Virtual Event

The VTRx+ (Versatile Link Plus Transceiver) is a bi-directional, high-speed, radiation-hard optical module designed for the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) upgrade, which is to be implemented after Long Shutdown 3. The substantially larger dataset produced by the HL-LHC poses unique challenges for detector instrumentation: radiation tolerance, data throughput, and operating temperature range must all be engineered to withstand the HL-LHC environment. The VTRx+ is responsible for bi-directional data transmission between front-end detector electronics and back-end readout systems, and is designed to meet these requirements simultaneously (high data throughput, radiation hardness up to 1 MGy total ionising dose, and operation from −35 °C to 65 °C) targeting inner detector applications at HL-LHC.
The module has been in production since 2022. Over this period, the lot acceptance and testing procedures have been optimised to extract key parameters and continuously monitor the performance of each batch, ensuring a sufficient yield of qualified devices to meet user requests. This seminar will walk through the stages of production, the quality assurance and monitoring strategy, and the investigation of observed failure modes. It will also detail additional characterisation projects carried out to better understand device performance, both long-term and under specific operating conditions.
