Updates on US Tier-2 centers
Conveners:
Fred Luehring
(Indiana University (US)),
Rafael Coelho Lopes De Sa
(University of Massachusetts (US))
- Reasonable running over the past two weeks with small reductions in production.
- All sites: Two outages caused by Oracle at CERN: 10/6/2026 and 10/17/2026.
- NET2 A certificate expired at NET2 and there was delay getting a new IGTF certificate because UMass had changed certificate providers.
- OU had problems with getting new storage to work stably and their were outbound transfer failures.
- The quarterly reporting is due.
- Please update the services sheet to reflect what versions of the OS, Storage SW, Queuing SW, etc. as of 9/30/2026.
- This will really help Fred write the quarterly report.
- Please update the capacity sheet to reflect recent server retirements.
- I still need the NET2 report.
- Rafael and I looked at the milestones earlier this week and entered changes but let us know if you have any changes or additions.
- We requested to retire the FY26 milestone to have new compute servers in production because no one bought any.
- The negotiations with Dell are grinding to a close.
- The "final" quotes are listed on the Final Quotes Sep-Oct 2027 sheet.
- Storage up more than a factor of two.
- The final quote for S3248T-ON switch was significantly worse than the initial quote and Dell discontinued the less expensive S3048T-ON switch.
- Dell is going "back to finance" to address this.
- Dell is looking at providing 7 year service contracts (quotes provide 5 year service contracts).
- I believe that all needed information for the next increment of funding has been sent to Stony Brook.
- We will get 2 month full cost extension of the current CA which will be followed by a one year no cost extension. This should eliminate the time pressure to issue POs and then receive the equipment.
- Chris Bee requested each tier 2 provide him with their personnel and travel costs for the extension period and this was completed last Friday.
