Kevin, Tuning Status
First attempt adding 40um of BBA horizontally was transparent.
Using one full dipole as orbit corrector works well in simulation.
a4 and b1 from skew quad trim coil is computed after iterations on optics corrections at Z, giving 155 units of a4. DA and MA to be checked. Earlier results form Abid and Kyriacos showed that this value should be ok.
The Systematic a2 errors were corrected by pre-setting corrections to avoid numerical issues.
Wietse would like to input Kevin's a4 in his simulations to correct a4.
Tuned Xsuite lattices could be made available without IP knob tuning and without fringes (fringes are different in Xsuite and pyAT).
Wietse, a3/a4 correction
216 a3 correctors inserted in the lattice. They can restore the DA and MA.
Adding a4 errors to dipoles, Wietse sees impacts on DA and MA (without beam-beam) at lower values than tolerance from Abid and Kyriacos (with beam-beam).
a4 corrections are successful when placing again 216 correctors (first go, unrealistic). Pantaleo comments that he has that generate the missing sextupole and at the moment he only has this available slot at the QF3. Wietse comments that this should be ok.
Strengths are needed.
Strategy for correction can be magnetic measurement-based or beam-based measured. Both will imply a level of complexity and cost.
Satya, Tuning standards and repository
Common standards are being defining to define corrections. Results from the various teams should be included.
Jorg comments that Booster lattices should also be included.
This is the moment to compare tuning results probably with a reduced set of errors to be able to compare different approaches and make sure there are no significant differences.
Christian, centering in quad vs sextupoles
Studies confirm centering in arc quadrupoles and IR sextupoles is best approach
Josh, POCO (Parametric optimisation of closed orbits)
Novel technique to correct orbit and reconstruct errors that influence the closed orbit, and faster than pyLOCO. Could be explored for improved orbit correction for the FCC.
