Description
Future particle physics experiments increasingly rely on precision timing to complement spatial information and enable true 4D tracking in very dense environments. Achieving time resolutions of a few tens of picoseconds requires the sensor, analog front-end, discriminator, time-to-digital conversion and readout system to be designed as a complete timing chain.
In this seminar, I will present the development of LIGHT01, a 64-channel prototype ASIC designed in 28 nm CMOS for the readout of trench-isolated LGAD pixels. I will discuss the main system requirements, the low-jitter analog front-end, the per-pixel TDC architecture, calibration and time-walk correction techniques, and the challenges associated with maintaining picosecond-level precision in a highly integrated pixel matrix. I will then present the first characterization results, the hybridization of the ASIC with Ti-LGAD sensors, source measurements, and the first operation of the complete detector in a particle beam at DESY.
