Abstract: String theories without spacetime supersymmetry generically lead to quantum potentials and interactions. In this talk, I will discuss two aspects of these effects: their relation to IR divergences in string amplitudes and their spacetime consequences. First, I will present a subtraction scheme for tadpole divergences. I will then show a few examples of vacua in tachyon-free non-supersymmetric string theories and the general properties that emerge.
