LOG Meeting February, 2 2012

1-1-25

Present: Amy Dusto, Despina Hatzifotiadou, Lisa Mc Carthy, James Gillies, Emma Sanders, Steve Goldfarb, Bolek Pietrzyk, Dave Barney, Achintya Rao, Beatrice Bressan, Renilde Vanden Broeck, Mirko Pojer, Pascale Milite, Maximilien Brice, Marzena Lapka, Emmanuelle Carrier

1. Google Streetview update and discussion

Pascale Milite proposed a temporary solution. It will not be streetview but inner space (you can navigate in a panorama view in a specific area)
From the CERN place page on google map we will need to create CI ID for each place we want to show including 50 panos.
Max will go to Zurich to place the photos of the site.
This can be done very quickly (nearly a month) after our decision.
Pascale will also have a look to Cern’s page history, to see who managed the page and photos.

2. Update on ICHEP 2012

There will be an exhibition at the Victoria museum with the lego model of Atlas and a mini control room
It will target a young audience.
There will be a public event + talks around ICHEP
James needs to see before the exhib with the legal service how to use the photos done by Peter Ginter

3. CERN Itunes channel April launch

A fetus of the site exists; the launch date is late April.
People from IT and Darudh Birker are working on it.
We now need more resources from PH EDU for young people.
To be published, we need the release to be signed before (problem of copyright)
The process for publishing is the following: Identification, modification to quick time format, technical work with the standards of the videos. (Christine will put on indico the material guidelines)

4. Results from last year’s evaluation of Microcosm and the Globe

Emma presented the results of the evaluation conducted over summer and autumn 2011, self completion questionnaires for teachers plus tracking and exit questionnaires of ordinary visitors. The majority of visiors during this period were tourists.
The main point highlighted include maintenance and cleaning problems in Microcosm together with its dated content and mediation techniques, but also the poor holding power of Globe interactives and the lack of coverage of CERN news in either of the spaces.  Emma is drawing up an action plan to remedy the most urgent points
The complete evaluation report is available on Indico.

5. Round the table, news from the experiments and the CCC

PRESS OFFICE – Liz Mermin will be around all year. Renilde recommends each experiment to make sure she respects all safety rules when coming.
Each experiment needs to ask their physicists for not inviting the press directly. Press people need to contact the press office. As the message is difficult to be passed, maybe the DG should write it in a message.

CCC – They expect big decisions from Chamonix.
The start will have one week late. There will be 3 weeks of commissioning.
The last visit to the machine is programmed on February, 22.
CMS – the press conference at point 5 will be more attractive thanks to photos from the press office. The photos will be scanned and will be used with an unlimited access in February.
Students and locals are coming at Cessy
Masterclasses: They are developing masterclasses in students’ classes. There will also be masterclasses with students from Annemasse.

LHCb – Lot of activity to improve exhibitions + photo on the wall outside LHCB.

ATLAS – 3 hundred people attended the virtual visit of Atlas.
This week it’s Atlas week (plenary, outreach meetings, elections for a new outreach coordinator)
For the visits, the access to the control room can be given when the machine is not working. So, in 2012 there will be no access because of the various stop maintenance.

USLHC – Kathryn is looking for a US blogger from ATLAS

ALICE – Antonio Sabba, the photographer, is around

Next meeting March, 1st 10.30 – 12.00
There are minutes attached to this event. Show them.
