Description
The startup of 2006 will find the SPS beam lines with renovated hardware and
control software. The hardware renovation includes a major part of the beam
instrumentation, the access system, the vacuum and possibly the magnet control. The
new control software is built in unison with the control software for the
accelerators thus marking the end of NODAL era for the secondary beams. A first Dry
Run (all but the beam!) was conducted in November 2005 where the “commissioning” of
two beam lines was successfully tested, while a second one is scheduled for
February 2006. For the PS East Hall, apart from the exchange of few magnets no
other modifications to the lines or experimental areas are foreseen. Finally
concerning the AD experimental areas the possible changes will depend on the
recommendations from SPSC on the proposed and planned experiments. The major issues
of all the above will be briefly presented.
