I discuss recent progress in NLO calculations of multi-jet observables. I will focus on applications to LHC phenomenology, especially a search for new physics in the jets+MET channel by CMS. I will also present preliminary results for the first calculation of W+5 jet production at NLO, and discuss the relevance and significance of this result
