Description
- Lab renovation. In progress. Air conditioning will be installed only in January 2013. - Lab furniture. Erik has reserved a number of lab benches, cabinets and desks. He will ask for delivery to B168 in the coming week. He will also order two lab stools (K&K). - Sr-90 e-gun. Fabrication in progress. Wait for delivery of Sr-90 source and W pieces. From experience with such a source in LHCb, it’s clear that we’ll need an additional trigger counter. It could be based on two crossed scint. fibres (e.g. 0.5 x 0.5 mm2). Samir will investigate the problem and conceive a solution. - Initial test of components: XY-station (Erik), picoscope, SiPM, UV-LED (Samir/Mathieu). + Linear motion stages work fine. 'Noise' problem solved, cross-check with company OWIS. So far only used with OWIS control software. A base plate (with threaded hole grid, 30 x 45 cm) was bought. + A little test box has been successfully set up, using a MPPC (10362-50) detecting light from a pulsed LED. Readout with picoscope / Labview interface. - Discussion of mechanical set-up: A sketch of the mechanical set-up for scanning scintillator tiles is attached. The e-gun is statically mounted on a gantry. The beam spot is defined by the exit slit of the gun and the crossed trigger scint. (see above). The sc. tile is moved wrt the beam by the XY station. Raphael will get hold of the CAD drawings from OWIS and prepare a drawing of the complete set-up. More work is needed to define the scintillator support and SiPM coupling. - Discussion of initial measurements / software: The software shall control the XY-station, handle the DAQ and produce quasi-online plots. + Definition of basic functionality. - charge readout (i.e. integration of pulse shape from picoscope) - timing rel. to trigger counters. + choice of software framework (Labview or other). It was agreed that we will use Labview. The situation may need to be reviewed once we want to test larger structures, possibly with readout by the SPIROC chip. - Next meeting: 15 January 2013, 14:00.
