Description
We resume the state of the art of heterotic string model building, focussing on the realistic models recently obtained by compactifications of the extra dimensions on orbifolds, i.e. on
singular internal spaces.
After this, we show how to resolve the orbifold singularities and re-obtain the models as smooth compactifications of the heterotic string.
In this way, we provide a description of the models in a broader area of their moduli space, improving the control we have on the moduli fields, always present in this class of models.
