Technical and operational overview of ATLAS-ALFA

The ALFA (Absolute Luminosity For ATLAS) project aims at measuring luminosity in LHC with high precision by using pp‑scattering under small angles. This is done by moving an upper and a lower tracking detector inside Roman Pots very close to the beam.
A technical overview of the ATLAS-ALFA detector system will be presented.  There will be special emphasis on the trigger system and the various upgrades of the trigger system.
Operation in dedicated LHC fill with special beam optics will be discussed for both 2011 and for 2012.
Unexpected heating was observed on the ALFA detectors during high intensity LHC fills.  Shot and long term solutions will be discussed.
