General information.

Hermann informed that after the new Mid-term plan released by CERN management, the CLIC retreat took place in July with a major reconfiguration of the work program for the next 5 years. The main impact for the CTC is that two workpackages have been move to other activities. Namely, the modulator prototypes for the next 1 GHZ klystron has moved to the experimental verification activity to be coordinated together with the klystrons themselves. For similar reasons, the nanotesla magnetic measurements over an extended area have moved to the design and parameters activity. A new workpackage has been created for PACMAN with a large budget. Space needs for this workpakage are still not solved. 
Hermann questioned the audience about the pertinence of the meetings under the current layout. It was felt that the CTC meetings are in some cases the only ocassion to discuss updates across work packages and activities. Therefore, the presence of R Corsini and D. Schulte is deemed necessary with periodic reports of what happens in other activities. In this respect, an update of ATF plans and progress is considered necessary in a near future. It was decided to keep the CTC meetings in the current format with a monthly periodicity. Smaller meetings may be organized to resolve work package issues. 

Tour de table.

Hermann reviewed the main changes in the scope and budgets of work packages. It has to be kept on mind that the budget cuts are less visible in the next year and the following one but the total amount of money for CLIC in 2017 will be only 10MCHF.
The original plan of the Two-beam test modules to have four test modules for the laboratory and three for CLEX has been reduced to three for the laboratory and only one for CLEX.  To a question from Helene, Hermann explained that the study of a second generation of modules had been considered and some budget allocated but that this activity was still not fully defined and could not start in any case before the re-baseline and the first results of the module in CLEX. The foreseen date for installation and test of the CLEX module is now April 2014. 
The stabilization work package has demonstrated that it can meet the specifications of the CDR. It was decided that this work must then come to an end as the efforts drift now to other projects like PACMAN. An eventual test of the stabilization system in the presence of radiation in CLEX was discussed. The possibilility to put the quadrupole frame behind the module with some correction of the height shall be discussed with Kurt. 
Beam losses simulations. No major changes are foreseen for this WP. It has produced a new beam loss pattern for the LINAC to the per mil level. The results of this simulation must be communicated to BE/CO for validation of the electronics.
Vacuum. Some research activities should be addressed within the available budget as teh study of the anti-chamber for the damping rings and its efficiency on reducing the impact of synchrotron radiation. 
Kickers. The work on combiner rings extraction kickers has been cut. To a question from mike, Hermann explained that the amount of fellows has decreased but mostly in BE. The number of fellows in TE and EN will stay and can even increase. 
Instrumentation. The budget has been reduced but as for alignment, no specific line of work has been cut. Under the current scheme, testing in Cornell is very expensive and has to be reviewed. Next tests have been planned for December and April but the situation has to be reviewed afterwards. The laser wire scanner could be removed from ATF, and liberate some place for other tests. 
Superconducting wiggler. The NbTi wiggler from Novosibirskwill be ready to test by spring 2014 and in ANKA during 2015. The program for Nb3Sn at CERN has no resources for the next two years. After that, a full length, 2-meters prototype should be considered. 
Controls. Front end development will continue and then stop. The fellow working on the CLEX module will leave in August and may not have time to finish his work due to the delay of the program. Mick will propose a six-month extension. 
Magnets. The review of the UK collaboration in general and the tuneable permanent magnets in particular was very satisfactory. Refinements of the prototypes were proposed but not considered necessary at this point. However the development of permanent magnets in the turnaround of the drive beam linacs may save 50MW of power and should be considered. There is no news on the development of QD0 and SD0 magnets. 
The CERN-UK collaboration will be renewed with a total of 3MCHF for three years. K contracts will be preparer in January. 

Next meeting will take place on November 19th with a discussion on the module test in CLEX.
