ROOT Planning Meeting 24-10

Present: The root team, Marco, Andreas, Peter, Andrea, Bill, Paul

ACTION: Bill Send to Danilo the packages where non compiling dictionaries are located
ACTION: Danilo Kick off a thread with Giulio, David and Bill  to set up an integration build. Wait for the green light from Bill before proceeding.
ACTION: Fons check printing level of obsolete function: can this appear only once or twice w/o polluting the logs?
ACTION: Valeri Check with Sebastien the status of the plugin manager and report

Danilo/Bill:
What is missing in ROOT preventing an IB? According to Bill, nothing critical.
But we know that:
o 5 dictionaries do not compile, they are scattered in 5 different packages
o 1 not blocking assert is there, Danilo and Vassil investigating. A work around is there form CMS side anyway
There is general consensus in favour of a CMSSW 700preX IB with ROOT6. See Actions.

Philippe:
o Has a lot of JIRA items on his shoulders, but he is going through them
o Offloading the most urgent items (blockers) from Wim's shoulders

Peter:
o We should check the Jira certificate, there are problem connecting
o A ticket has been assigned to Philippe about schema evolution. Somehow lost during the Jira mailing stall. Will be resumed
o A lot of warnings about an obsolete function when using TH1F: ~700MB logs. Lorenzo aware. See actions
o Next step: prepare a grid distribution to make a large scale test of Root6
o Next week we will be able to say if we are done with the transition!

Valeri:
o The reflex-less plugin manager is not in Atlas SVN. This should be checked with Sebastien/Cherles. See Actions.
o 17 packages use Reflex and may need redesign
o RootStorageSvc: entirely Reflex based, a POOL component integrated into APR (Athena pool replacement). It's been in production since pool has been retired from lcg.
o Atlas Offline compiles BUT a several dummy functions are still there
o Work expected for the dummy routines: difficult to say, we can see where we are next week and interpolate
o How the talk was received in Atlas: many questions for Sebastien
o See more info in this presentation of Rolf at the Atlas SW week: https://indico.cern.ch/getFile.py/access?contribId=1&sessionId=1&resId=0&materialId=slides&confId=210658, in particular slide 29.

Marco:
 o Back from vacation.
o Empty property: we have to rediscover the recipe and check the status

Bill/Paul:
 o Good progress
o Almost everything already said at the beginning of the meeting, the next points are an integration of what was said before :-)
o Checksums had to be changed when moving from Root5 to Root6
o We should check if this is expected, typenames changed and we would like to be sure that this is expected
o Usage of Reflex: reflex has been removed everywhere, except from the conditions
o We have to decide how to proceed for those
o The IB will start with FWCore and then we'll proceed with the rest

Andrea:
o Namespace handling: namespaces are used in PyCool everywhere, Philippe is taking care
o Exception handling: a lot of tests fail because a python layer decorate classes and this is not working. We have to be sure this is not related to namespaces.
