The FCC (Future Circular Collider) Study Group has started its sessions, devoted at an analysis of the options on the table from the HE-LHC in the LHC tunnel, to the 80 to 100 km long hadron, lepton and hadron-lepton colliders. The objective is a CDR before the next European Strategy discussion (end 2017).
To respond to the queries on magnet technology options at the high-field end, I propose to start a 16 T dipole initiative, to complement the 20 T dipole initiative already running in association to EuCARD2 WP10. In a first session, to be held on December 11th, 10:30 to 12:30 in 112/4-C17, I will report on the scope of the FCC, so that we can set out first ideas for a conceptual design and prototyping program. The objective will be to arrive rapidly to a work definition, and define shares and interfaces among sections and across projects.
