We will review the Einstein-Aether theory and its applications to the
trans-Planckian problem. In this context, the latter is linked to the lack of a
rigorous formulation of quantum field theory on curved space, with locally
Lorentz-breaking modified dispersion relations. We will show how this problem
can be tackled by a momentum-space analysis of the Green's functions.
