EGEE-II: The project extension of 1 month (now runs until 30th April 2008) has been confirmed by the European Commission. The 22nd Open Grid Forum meeting was held last week in Boston. Programme: http://www.ogf.org/gf/event_schedule/index.php?event_id=9 There were about 250 participants with many of those from Europe and Asia. The general atmosphere was one of soul-searching and looking for a “raison d’etre”. OGF has lost a number of business sponsors which means it is receiving 400,000$ less annually. OGF has to make some important and difficult choices about how it positions itself in the future if it is to survive. The separation between business and academia was in everyone’s mind and discussed at the two town-hall meetings held. The differences and similarities between clouds and grids were discussed in several sessions and keynote talks but the general opinion appears to be that they are complimentary views of large-scale infrastructures. The leaders of the EGEE, DESIA, OSG, TeraGrid and NAREGI met for the first time and agreed to create a group (Infrastructure Policy Group) that will address policy issues necessary to allow interoperation of their grid infrastructures. EGEE-III: We expect to receive the draft grant agreement from the European Commission within 2 weeks. A transition meeting is scheduled for all partners of the EGEE-III project on 6 and 7 May 2008 at CERN. The Project Office is currently preparing all documentation and web pages to ensure the start of EGEE III is as smooth as possible. Collaborating projects: EELA final review held in February and the project was judged a success "good to excellent". EUChinaGrid, EUMedGrid officially extended by 3 months and 2 months respectively ICEAGE winter school ongoing http://www.iceage-eu.org/iwsgc08/index.cfm
