The Cloud Legal Project is a project which commenced in 2009 to investigate legal issues in cloud computing. In particular, it has published research regarding the negotiation of cloud service contracts, based on detailed anonymised interviews with cloud market players, from users to providers and integrators. It has also published a case study regarding the UK G-Cloud pilot framework for the use of cloud services by the UK public sector. This session will cover the key findings from the cloud contracts negotiation research, and some of the main issues arising from the G-Cloud research.
About the speaker
Kuan Hon, MA (Cantab), LLM (UPenn), MSc (Imperial), LLM (Queen Mary), MBCS, is consultant to the Cloud Legal Project at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary, University of London, where she is undertaking a joint law and computer science PhD. In 2011 she participated in the UK G-Cloud program's Commercial Workstream. A Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales and a New York Attorney, Kuan worked as a finance/insolvency lawyer for English and US law firms in the City of London before completing a computing science MSc and moving into technology law.
She has co-authored several chapters in a book by members of the Cloud Legal Project team on Cloud Computing Law (OUP 2013, including a Kindle edition), and her articles on cloud computing, many with Profs Christopher Millard and Ian Walden, have been published in the Information, Communication & Society journal, Journal of International Data Privacy Law, SCRIPT-ed, Society for Computers and Law and Stanford Technology Law Review.
