Description
Abstract: The activities of CRPP in the field of HTS cabled conductors are reviewed. The main effort is presently aimed to a forced flow, short length prototype conductor of YBCO tapes, designed for 60 kA operating current at 12 T background field. The selected conductor architecture belongs to the family of "twisted stacks". The rationale and the advantages of the twisted stack layout are discussed. The strain assessment is done accounting for bending and torsion. The actual performance limits for mechanical deformation are investigated by a number of trials at 77 K. For a full performance test at variable temperature in the CRPP facilities SULTAN / EDIPO, an HTS adapter and a counter-flow heat exchanger are built. The R&D for HTS high field insert coils is also reported.
