Description

1. In the summer shutdown period of 2013, the output energy of the J-PARC linac was upgraded from 181 MeV to the design value of 400 MeV with the addition of an ACS linac section. After commissioning the linac, J-PARC RCS was beam commissioned on the end of January 2014 with the upgraded injection energy of 400 MeV. Via the initial beam tuning and tests, so far, RCS has successfully achieved high-intensity beam trials of up to 560 kW at a low-level intensity loss of less than 1% with the injection energy of 400 MeV, and is now providing 300-kW beam for the user program. In this seminar, we will present the beam commissioning status of RCS, and discuss its beam dynamics issues with the numerical simulation results. The future prospect of RCS beam power ramp-up toward the 1-MW design beam operation will also be mentioned briefly.

2. The J-PARC RCS is a 3-GeV rapid-cycling proton synchrotron operating with 25 Hz.  H- injection beam energy was upgraded from 181 to 400 MeV in the beginning of 2014.  Some injection systems were replaced or modified to adapt the higher injection energy, to reduce the beam loss and to add more painting capability.This talk presents the transverse painting scheme emphasising the new injection system of the RCS.
