IHEPCCC Meeting - May 13 2008

R.Sobie pointed out the recent reports on the Benchmark and Storage Working Groups which were presented at the recent HEPiX meeting at CERN.

The main focus of the meeting was the future of the IHEPCCC. At the last IHEPCCC meeting, a call was made for people interested in becoming the next Chair of IHEPCCC. The position is a 2-year (renewable) position; the current Chair has held this position since Feb 2006). Only one reply was received from Dominique Boutigny.
Dominique presented his ideas (see slides on the meeting agenda page) followed by a discussion that lasted for approximately 1 hour. There were a wide range of opinions expressed: full support of DB's proposal, to a request for a more focused plan leading to a long-range planning document or ending the committee.
A motion was put forward (Vicky and seconded by Farad), that Dominique produce a short written document based on his proposal and the feedback received during the meeting. This was supported by the committee.
Dominique will produce this document in 2 weeks (May 23). There will a 2-week period for comment from the IHEPCCC committee ending June 6. Dominique will have 1 week to revise and finalize his proposal (June 13). A vote will be initiated by the IHEPCCC Chair with a deadline for votes of June 20.
It was agreed during the meeting (including Dominique) that acceptance of the proposal would require a two-thirds majority of all members of the IHEPCCC. (The SCIC Chair is an observer on the IHEPCCC and is not eligible to vote.) There are 21 members, so support of the proposed plan will require 14 votes.
Once the process is completed, the current IHEPCCC Chair will prepare a report to ICFA. The ICFA Chair requested such a document for the next ICFA meeting at the ICHEP Conference in late-July.
