Description
Systems with entangled degrees of freedom and cross-coupling effects, especially colossal magnetoresistive oxides and multiferroic materials, are being studied with prospect applications in information and energy saving technologies. In such compounds, lattice local distortions have a fundamental influence in the macroscopic properties. Local probe studies are thus of the most importance to understand the microscopic inherent mechanisms. We have used the perturbed angular correlation technique to locally monitor different magnetic oxide systems (manganites and cromites) allowing the determination of Electrical-Field Gradients and Hyperfine Magnetic Fields. Our last perturbed angular correlation studies in Jahn-Teller distorted Nd(Sm)MnO3 manganites and RCrO3 multiferroic system will be discussed.
