Travel information
To get to Geilo, we recommend flying to either Oslo Gardermoen or Bergen Flesland, and then taking a train to Geilo. The train trip takes approx. 3.5 hours and follows the scenic Oslo-Bergen train route (the most scenic parts being between Bergen and Geilo).
Bus routes are also available between Oslo and Geilo at nettbuss.no. The site is unfortunately in Norwegian, but has an option for translation through google translate. The relevant stops are Oslo (Oslo bussterminal) (Oslo bus terminal) and Geilo (Geilo jernbanestasjon) (Geilo railway station). Travel time is approx. 4.5 hours.
For getting to the train/bus there is a normal train as well as an airport express train from Oslo Airport Gardermoen to Oslo Central Station (the express train takes roughly 20 minutes), from where the train to Geilo leaves. There is also an airport express bus (taking forever) that stops at the Oslo bus terminal. The bus terminal is located close to the central station. The connection between Bergen Airport Flesland and the Bergen train station can be made by the airport bus (around 25min, every 15min), which stops 50m from the train station, or with a taxi (around 20min).
Train tickets to Geilo can be booked here. We strongly advice you to book well ahead in time as you can then get reasonably priced tickets. Right now the price is 249 NOK each way (minipris) from Oslo. On Sunday the 4th of January trains leave Oslo at 08:25, 12:03, 12:23, 15:25 and 23:25. The 15:25 train should get you to Geilo in time for dinner which is served at 20:00 (if it's on time; the train, not the dinner).
