Abstract:
The CERN MPT workshop located in Bldg. 102, previously part of TE, has become since January 2014 a facility of the DT group. The facility produces mainly ceramic hybrids, low-mass circuits, fine-pitch readout boards, PCBs (FR4, kapton, flex-rigid) and detector components. The workshop is playing in particular a key role in the development of components for micro-pattern gas detectors (MPGD) and MPGD assembly techniques, an activity that has been growing very significantly in the last few years.
This seminar will present the workshop and attached laboratories and describe the technologies used to produce PCBs and MPGDs. A brief outlook on present R&D and future activities will be given. However, the main focus remains in explaining the basics of the production technologies itself.
Outline:
-Presentation of the lab
-technologies used in the lab.
-manufacturing steps of a standard PCB
-manufacturing steps of MSGC ( GEM , Micromegas BULK , Microbulk )
-other technologies ( MCM-C , MCM-L , large board , micro-etching of exotic metals )
-future: new building , new machines, etc….
