The ISIS spallation neutron source at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK is a world-leading centre for research in the physical and life sciences. It produces intense neutron and muon beams that give unique insights into the properties of materials on the atomic scale.
This talk will summarise the history of the Rutherford Lab and explain how ISIS came to be, it will describe the current ISIS facility with a focus on the 800 MeV proton synchrotron and finally, the possibilities for future upgrades to the facility will be discussed.
