EUCHINAGRID Workshop in Beijing

Europe/Zurich
Mathieu Goutelle -- UREC/CNRS The main purpose of this workshop was to have a clearer view of the collaboration EGEE and EUChinaGrid will have about IPv6 and the compliance of gLite. During the talks, we get informations about the IPv6 status of both the Chinese network (CERNET2 is a pure IPv6 network) but their grid resources remain IPv4. They are building currently complex mechanisms to encapsulate IPv4 packets in IPv6. These seems weird but their middleware seems not to have any network dependencies (rely on external software they just need to upgrade) so it seems like a temporary solution. The Italian partners of EUChinaGrid gave also a presentation about the status of WPA.2.2, the workpackage dedicated to IPv6 and also a very interesting talk about first how to port an application on IPv6 (using new APIs) and first tests of the gLite WMS on an IPv6 testbed. The main outcome of this WS was to meet people and start discussing about how the collaboration will be organized (in terms of EGEE participation). SA2 proposed to participate, as part of TSA2.1.3, in their IPv6 testbed, in order to be kept informed on the latest developments and to embody the collaboration. This is anyway a good mean to keep an IPv6 competence inside EGEE through a true implementation case.
