LHC Restart at 13 TeV
LHC Restart at 13 TeV: What is next?
- Information to the students
The start of the LHC Run 2 is rapidly approaching. The LHC has been commissioned to the 2015 operating energy of 6.5 TeV per beam. Restart of the operation of the LHC at a proton-proton collision energy of 13 TeV is imminent, and 2015 is a year for fully understanding the performance of the upgraded machine with a view to full-scale physics running in 2016-2018. There are good prospects ahead for a great Run 2.
An introduction to the LHC physics program, with a description of the achievements and the future challenges ahead is given in a series of short presentations. The current participation and involvement of the LIP/IST Portuguese team in the LHC program at the CMS experiment is discussed with the goal of introducing the students to this amazing International scientific experience.
Prospects for direct involvement of the students at different levels are outlined and projects summarized. Master theses, PhD theses, Postdoctoral research topics, and fellowships at various levels are available.
