first WG7 meeting to define the organization of work, the parallel session for the collaboration meeting in Paris, AoB

      slides
The discussion followed the lines of the attached slides. After some news about the proposal status, the conclusions of the GIF++ meeting held at CERN on 19/08/08 was reported. Some underlined aspects: 1) A particle beam will be present in addition to the Cesium source. This feature make the GIF++ attractive also as a test beam facility with a photon background environment, and not only as a high intensity irradiation facility. 2) A sort of minimal trigger and DAQ infrastructure will be provided. 3) GIF++ people complain the fact that RD51 didn't answer to their feedback request, even as single groups. They will have a new meeting in 2-3 month, where the facility specifications will be finalized. This period is the last chance to submit our specific demands to GIF++ people. It has been stressed that the most urgent issue is the organization of the parallel session in Paris, just before the organization of the work itself. Some subtasks (trigger devices, infrastructures..) are very standard and are not worth a presentation in the parallel session, but other subtasks (DAQ, framework analysis, tracking system) should prepare a presentation to explain to users the proposed solution and get feedback. Luckly, a minimal trigger and DAQ infrastructure, which are some of the subtasks of the proposal at the moment not covered by any group, will be provided by the GIF++ itself. Finally, there are subtasks (GIF++ specification and schedule, components irradiation schedule) that require to gather information from all RD51 members and this activity will start asap, in order to report the results in Paris. After the slides, some points has been stressed again: - All the groups of the collaboration must be contacted asap, asking them if they plan to have test beam or irradiation activities in 2009 and 2010, and which are their requirements, giving the collaboration meeting at Paris as deadline for answers. It is worth to show at Paris that the collaboration need common facilities, it is crucial for WG7 to know the requirements of the users - On several subtasks several competing proposal are present. Of course working on something completely new is a waste of resourses and it is worth that each group proposes the solution that is developing. The collaboration meeting at Paris is the right opportunity to have feedback from the users.
