Description
The CNAO (Centro Nazionale di Adroterpia Oncologica) project consists in an Italian
accelerator for hadron therapy. The machine requires for the 16 bending magnets an
homogeneity field of very high quality over a wide dynamic range. The collaboration
between CERN and CNAO has developped a magnetic measurement bench based on an array
of 12 curved long coils which is described. The 12 coils are cross-calibrated with
respect to an additional reference coil, so that the homogeneity curves may be
measured within 10-4 on one go; the time of the measurements is thus reduced for
the
iterations of the delicate shimming process.
