I review the principles, physics and computer implementations of the Monte Carlo event generators of importance for LHC Physics.
The main topics covered are :
The principles of Monte Carlo event generation;
The structure of LHC events;
Parton showers;
Hadronization;
Using PYTHIA and HERWIG;
Progress towards the next generation.
