Cosmological GRB, with their high luminosity even when their signal reach our instruments from very large distances, can provide information on many cosmological quantities.
GRB can probe intergalactic medium from their to our galaxy as well the interstellar medium (ISM) of the host galaxy. If the most likely source of GRB are the stars forming regions, the study of the host galaxies will provide an unbiased sample to investigate galaxies in high star formation regime. If a statistically significant number of GRB can be collected with the host galaxies position, a plot of distance versus z similar to that of SN1a can be constructed for z > 1.
The seminar will contain a brief introduction to the GRB phenomenology, their prompt signal and afterglow features. A short review of the most popular models is supposed to give a hint on the probability that in a reasonable time the mechanism at origin of the largest explosions in the Universe will be understood at a level that the intrinsically interesting GRB phenomenon would become a tool for cosmology studies at large z.
