Dark matter searches: status and prospects

The strategies and the techniques used for the direct detection of WIMPS are briefly illustrated. After a presentation of the DAMA annual modulation evidence, the experiments able to test this result are discussed, with particular emphasis on those based on phonon-mediated detection. Most promising future plans are introduced as well.
