Description
EDS is a configurable Web-based tool to enable the capture of meta data and the transfer of documents from an author or \"Submitter\" to the CERN Document Server. It deals with many different document types, like press cuttings, e-books, preprints, photos, etc. A wide range of publishing operations are offered, like document transfer, modification of the meta-data already submitted, sending of revised versions, request for approval and other functions for ensuring the best possible diffusion of released documents.
First, a short demonstration will be done of the existing software. We will then explain how the interface is built from a MySQL database and how this database is configured to ease and speed up the introduction of any new kind of document. We will finally describe how the information and the fulltext documents are handled from their submission to their availability on WebLib.
The talk is open to everyone. Users of EDS can improve their knowledge of the tool. The talk may be especially interesting to people setting up electronic catalogues or writing a Web interface to database system.
