We consider nm -> ne oscillations at long baseline experiments in the three flavour framework. We find that the propagation of neutrinos through the matter of earth's crust changes the oscillation probability significantly for long baseline experiments such as K2K, MINOS and CERN-Gran Sasso experiments. However one needs data from two different experiments with different baseline lengths to isolate effect of the matter term. The sign of the matter term, together with Solar neutrino and CHOOZ data, determines the hierarchy of the neutrino masses.
