Scattering and locality in the AdS/CFT correspondence

A crucial - and profound - question in the AdS/CFT correspondence regards the emergence of approximate locality in the bulk. This question drives at the essence of the holographic proposal. To investigate this question, one first needs a means of extracting information in the bulk theory from the boundary CFT. I'll discuss some of the issues in deriving a flat-space S-matrix from the CFT, and will also give some preliminary discussion about how bulk locality might be tested.
