Over the last 10 years, the formerly rather complex CERN library has been turned into a "simple" information source: the digital library.
It has moved from collections of preprints, reports, journals, books and more, with all its holdings neatly listed in card catalogues, bibliographies, and abstract journals, to a library that holds this information in electronic form.
The process is still ongoing: today the library is a 'hybrid', where users have to rely on both electronic and printed resources. Digital content, originating from internal sources and external providers, is being integrated to the highest possible level in order to meet the stringent requirements of the particle physics community.
CERN plays an active role at an international level in the development of electronic publishing and scientific communication.
On 26 August, a presentation will give a general overview of the different library services followed by an in-depth presentation of electronic services that are provided by Springer Verlag.
