Description
There are now 26 groups round the world investigating 11 different silicon pixel technologies for vertex detectors at the International Linear Collider (ILC). In this talk, we consider the physics incentives for detectors with unprecedented performance. We then review briefly the experience from SLC, and discuss the main challenges to be overcome, in developing a detector of approximately 109 pixels able to do the job.
