Minutes of ROOT weekly meeting 12 August 2005 =========================================== Rene ==== Welcome new/old member Bertrand Bellenot Lorenzo has agreed to be the SEAL work-package manager. Atlas and CMS have requested support for many SEAL packages. This list has still to be clarified. Reflex, Cintex and MathCore will be maintained only in ROOT. Question mark about Minuit in SEAL? Next development release planned for around 20 September. In the absence of Olivier and Richard, mini report about GL. Timur Pocheptsov spent two weeks with us in July. Timur is working to get GL graphics in the TPad/TCanvas as an option. This has required changes in the 3-D viewers. Richard working on the reengineering. Collecting CMS data sets for the PROOF demos and creating examples of selectors to analyze the CMS Trees. Workshop is approaching fast. Don't forget to register. For next week meeting, work-package managers should come with a proposal of their talks. Emergency call from Hans Dijkstra (LHCb) about a problem with a Python script ->Gaudi -> AIDA -> PI -> ROOT. ROOT histograms were not correctly filled with under/overflows. Thanks to Stefan and Lorenzo for identifying/fixing the problem somewhere in Gaudi. Philippe ======== I introduced a new feature allowing the customization of the constructor used by the I/O. The constructor actually called by the ROOT I/O can be customized by using the rootcint pragma: #pragma link C++ ioctortype UserClass; For example, with this pragma and a class named MyClass, this method will call the first of the following 3 constructors which exists and is public: MyClass(UserClass*); MyClass(TRootIOCtor*); MyClass(); // Or a constructor with all its arguments defaulted. When more than one pragma ioctortype is used, the first seen has priority For example with: #pragma link C++ ioctortype UserClass1; #pragma link C++ ioctortype UserClass2; We look for the first existing public constructor in the following order: MyClass(UserClass1*); MyClass(UserClass2*); MyClass(TRootIoCtor*); MyClass(); // Or a constructor with all its arguments defaulted. Markus ====== Problem in Atlas reading ROOT3 files. big penalty factor (10) due to the fact that Checksum was missing in version 3. CLHEP schema evolution does not work for files written with ROOT3. StreamerInfo generated for every object! Stefan ====== Working on the CINT dictionary generation. replacing newlink.c to generate reflex source code. Still missing global variables and c functions. Found that the CINT C++ API is rather complete. Guenter ======= Still working on OLBD for PROOF. Read litterature about peer to peer computing. Discussing with Andy and Pete Elmer on how to proceed. New discussion scheduled next Tuesday. Bruno ===== finished working with Qt/X11 comparison. still many items on the bug list. contact Valeri Fine. Bruno takes the responsability for clearing this list. Bertrand ======== Learning the local environment by solving several problems. Solved several problems in Ilka's list. Implement check box in TGListTree (for browsing geometries). Resume work on GUI Builder. mainly fixing bugs before starting new work. Work also on xrootd client on windows. Ilka ==== Answering mails. User support. Driving Denis work. Discuss PROOF GUI with Marek. Marek spotted possible memory leaks in the GUI. Denis ===== will show a demo on the Style manager early September. Actively developping it. Jose ==== Working mainly in Alice. help Andras in running the code checker. Will produce a script such that each developer can run tool myfile.cxx myfile.html tool will be installed in AFS Andras ====== used the code checker on MathMore. Finalizing Mathmore including test macros. Will report next week on status. Lorenzo ======= In contact with Mark Fishler to add a few more functions to the Vector classes. Presentation scheduled next week. Comparing old and new Minuit. Need to discuss with Fred. Math doc in the Users guide. (to be discussed with Ilka) Marek ===== Working on the PROOF GUI. Made a prototype and now implementing it. Gerri ===== finalizing the patches for the new PROOF. non-blocking queries with multiple sessions on the same machine. Target is to demo the new system at the ROOT workshop. Fons ===== Setting a PROOF Alice/Apple setup (with 2 Terabytes). Peter Hristov has new selectors. General discussion ================== At the end of the meeting, we had a discussion triggered by Markus on the SEAL/ROOT merge. As usual when entering this kind of topics, the discussion was hot and with no conclusions. Two camps remain; -those proposing that new packages (eg plug-in manager) should be totally independent of anything else -those proposing to always use a core library. These two antagonist views seem impossible to converge. Really sad!
