The new generation of coherent light sources (FEL) require unprecedented beam quality in terms of longitudinal (length and energy spread) and transverse (emittance) parameters. The seminar will discuss the main beam dynamics issues related to the generation of such ultra-brilliant electron beams and will present the development of the SPARC project at LNF-INFN.
