I will present the details of the excitation of the Standard Model Higgs during and towards the end of inflation, and the cosmological implications of its decay afterwards. I will discuss the conditions to achieve a successful mechanism to 'reheat’ the Universe into the Standard Model species. I will also discuss the implications of all this for primordial gravitational waves.
