TT2 Meeting (WIC)

R. Steerenberg informed that the only elements connected as external conditions to the MTG are the switching magnets BHZ377/8 (towards the SPS), FTN403 (towards nTOF), BTI246 (towards the AD). If a power converter trips, the MTG will switch to the spare cycle as earliest possible moment. Each of the new power converters will send its status to the WIC, which then cuts the beam via the BIS (not yest existing for the PS). R. Mompo pointed out that the BIS can only stop the beam, but has no notion of spare cycle. This notion is however very important for the PS, as with the MTG beam can still be sent to a different destination in case of a fault, maximizing the number of protons delivered to the users. R. Steerenberg explained that B. Vandorpe was checking the WIC specification and functionalities in detail and collecting the requirements for operations. For the connection of Linac4 to the PSB an interface betwen BIS and MTG will be set-up, but it will only become available after LS2. H. Damerau will check with S. Pittet if the new power converters can deliver status information to the MTG like the old converters, which would be the preferred solution.
R. Mompo reminded that the BIS was in the pipeline within the consolidation project but not yet an approved activity. He explained that the estimated budget for the WIC of TT2 was about 200 kCHF. He will provide a work package. For the de-cabling of the old magnet interlocks R. Mompo will contact G. M. Georgiev to provide a cost estimate.
R. Mompo asked about the possibility to send a signal from cooling systems to interlocks as status information. S. Deleval replied that this was not standard solution and is not preferred by EN/CV since each equipment should have its own protection.
S. Deleval and K. Hanke confirmed that TT2 remains connected to the PSB as a baseline for LIU. However studies for a potential connection of TT2 to the PS cooling systems continue.
Concerning the additional cooling needs for the upgraded 10 MHz cavities S. Deleval explained that C. Rossi only foresees 200 kCHF to cover modifications of the local water distribution of each cavity in the RF budget (LIU-PS 4.2). No increase of the overall cooling capacity was foreseen. He estimates an additional cost of 260 kCHF to increase the flow-rate/diameter of the de-mineralized water circuits in the PS and already provided a work unit. This would also have sufficient extra capacity to cover eventual future needs. K. Hanke stressed that a list summarizing the cooling needs for LIU-PS should be complied by S. Deleval as soon as possible.
