I will describe the theoretical motivations of two new
approaches to light WIMP and axion-like particles searches.
One is based on the hypothetical anisotropic response of large
arrays of oriented carbon nanotubes, the other is a variation on
the Light-Shining-through-Wall technique, with microwave sources.
I will briefly present the proof-of-concept experiments in preparation.
