Description

AtmoHEAD is a periodic 3-day international workshop on atmospheric monitoring and calibration for high-energy astroparticle detectors and experiments, with a view towards next-generation facilities. The meeting will be hosted by Palacky University Olomouc and the Institute of Physics of Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

The event follows the tradition of previous AtmoHEAD (ATmospheric MOnitoring for High Energy Astroparticle Detectors) conferences - AtmoHEAD 2013 and 2014 in Saclay and Padova and ATMON 2008 and 2010 in Prague and Madison, and first Astroparticles and Atmosphere (AA) in 2003 Paris.

As Ryan Chaves wrote for the 2013 AtmoHEAD : "The atmosphere is an integral component of many high-energy astroparticle detectors. Imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes and cosmic-ray extensive air shower detectors are the two instruments driving the rapidly evolving fields of very-high- and ultra-high-energy astrophysics. In these instruments, the atmosphere is used as a giant calorimeter where cosmic rays and gamma rays deposit their energy and initiate EASs; it is also the medium through which the resulting Cherenkov light propagates".

New and common monitoring and calibration instruments including Monte Carlo simulations, smart scheduling and atmosphere condition prediction are one of the most important tools of these observatories. The workshop concentrates at the most up-today techniques and instruments.
