Description
I argue that in the large N-c limit of QCD, there are three distinct phases of QCD
in the temperature-baryon chemical potential plane. One is confined mesonic matter with an energy density of order 1, and zero baryon density. The second deconfined matter with an energy density of order Nc^2, and finite baryon density.
The third is quarkyonic matter with an energy density of order N_c, that is confined and has finite baryon density. I discuss such matter, its relation with chiral symmetry breaking, and its relation with matter for N_c = 3.
