Tentative: LHC jet feature discussion with Stephen Ellis

We have the opportunity to informally discuss jet features with Stephen Ellis (Washington) at this time. Please review topics suggested below and send your own suggestions as soon as possible to PL.

      Suggested topics:

      • Underlying event and pile-up in jets formed by recursive recombination
        • theoretical aspects of extra particle production (multiple parton interaction modeling)
        • observables useful to correct for the extra energy in non-cone jets (jet areas in irregular shapes, pruning will be discussed in a dedicated contribution in the afternoon!,...)
        • best non-cone algorithm to use - Cambridge/Aachen (CA), kT, Anti-kT (Jesse will discuss this one in more detail in the afternoon)
      • Mass of light quark jets Note that we discuss jets from heavy particles like top later in the context of jet pruning.

Experimental aspects of physics with jets and missing Et 30m
Introduction to the joint sessions with a brief review of experimental jet and missing Et reconstruction in ATLAS, together with some general experimental aspects of these tasks. A comprehensive summary of ATLAS detector performance expectations for Standard Model and discovery physics can be found in arXiv:0901.0512 (1852 pages). Details of the ATLAS detector can be found in JINST 3,S08003.
