Scope of the review:
This review has two objectives, namely to examine the needs and upcoming program for the superconductors and magnets test stations, and to advise on the required consolidation and development work. Specifically, we ask the Review Committee to:
• review the scope of superconductors and magnet test facilities on the
medium term (5 years horizon and beyond) and endorse the value of the program presented;
• assess whether the present laboratory capabilities are appropriate to
the scope outlined above;
• review needs on hardware, electronics, acquisition, operation.
Identify existing or potential overlaps, as well as opportunities to centralize services;
• discuss and endorse the proposed plan of consolidation and medium term
development.
The review will cover the facilities in Bdg. 163 (superconducting strands and cables, FRESCA), Block-4 (vertical cryostats and diodes),
SM-18 (horizontal cryostats), Cryolab for electrical tests, Bdg. 180 for ATLAS magnets, and RF cavities test station.
